Amid nationwide protests and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Delhi Police on Saturday appealed to people gathered at the ongoing CJP protest at Jantar Mantar to peacefully disperse and return home.
As the protest concluded, police officials made announcements through loudspeakers, urging demonstrators to vacate the site and maintain peace. In a recent advisory shared by the Delhi Traffic Police on X, commuters have been advised to avoid travelling in the New Delhi district amid heavy traffic jams.
In an effort to ease the flow of people vacating the protest site, Delhi Metro reopened key stations and allowed passengers to enter and exit, while steps have been taken to control the traffic in the area around the central parts of Delhi.
According to police, no unpleasant incident had occurred, and things were normal at the site.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued an update, confirming that all entry gates at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Janpath and Central Secretariat metro stations had been reopened.
The gates were earlier closed as a precautionary measure due to security concerns amid the protest. With the situation returning to normal, passenger movement has resumed at these stations.
However, several other stations that were earlier closed, including Kalyan Marg, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan, and New Delhi, remain closed until further notice.
