With the party's ouster from power in Bengal, the internal strife within the Trinamool Congress is now surfacing. The legislative party meeting, held at Kalighat, the residence of Trinamool supremo and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, wasn't merely a formal review meeting; it exposed the deep discontent brewing against the party's top leadership.

The biggest buzz of this meeting was the mysterious absence of 15 MLAs and the questions raised directly by three powerful leaders and MLAs on the working style of National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

According to party sources cited in a Jagran.com report, Mamata had already issued strict instructions that any complaints should be submitted only in writing. Despite this, Beleghata MLA Kunal Ghosh, Uluberia East MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, and Entally MLA Sandipan Saha drove to Kalighat in the same car, scripting a new rebellion.

These MLAs seized Trinamool candidate Jahangir Khan's withdrawal just two days before the election as an opportunity to express dissent.

Jahangir is considered very close to Abhishek Banerjee, so the MLAs directly questioned why he hadn't been suspended despite his anti-party behaviour.

Ritbrata and Sandipan, calling Jahangir a "leader of the Union Territory," taunted him, asking why he had become a deserter despite being given so many privileges.

This rebellion intensified when Kunal Ghosh bluntly stated that there should be "free air," meaning freedom of expression, within the party.

Instead of engaging in drawing-room politics in closed rooms, leaders must now take to the streets. The meeting also raised questions about Abhishek's election announcements and his recent mysterious silence.

15 MLAs absent

The absence of 15 MLAs from the meeting was also a major red flag for the party. Although seven MLAs cited illness, the presence of the MLA from Harishchandrapur in Delhi at this crucial time and reports of his contact with the Congress high command are enough to raise concerns for the Trinamool Congress.

Also, the fact that only 65 MLAs signed the letter proposing to give the status of Leader of Opposition to Shovandev Chattopadhyay clearly shows that all is not well in Mamata's party.
