The Delhi Government on Sunday imposed a strict ban on LPG cylinders being sold directly from their storage sites (Godowns). CM Rekha Gupta stated there would be serious consequences for those caught violating the ban. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also stated that they had been carefully monitoring LPG supply to avoid shortages or non-compliance.
"Residents have been advised not to visit gas agencies or storage points or gather in crowds, as booked cylinders are being delivered to homes within the stipulated time," PTI quoted CM Rekha Gupta.
The Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) also issued advisories to their operators, including that any sale of LPG from storage locations would be strictly prohibited as per regulations issued by the OMC.
The government has also provided additional availability of 5kg LPG cylinders in an effort to assist migrant workers in accessing resources. These cylinders are available at gas agency locations for people who present an acceptable form of ID without having an address validated.
"These cylinders can now be purchased from gas agencies on showing a valid ID, without the need for address verification. Eleven help desks have also been set up at select HPCL outlets to guide consumers on nearby distributors," the statement read.
There have been 1,14,679 bookings for LPG and 1,31,335 deliveries as of April 4, 2026. Currently, the average time for domestic LPG delivery is 4.24 days.
The CM said they will put in place a dedicated control room to monitor and prevent hoarding or illegal marketing. The support number for the Control Room will be 011-23-37-9836 and 838-382-4659.
According to the Delhi Police, 17 different places have been raided, and 76 gas agency locations have been inspected by the Food and Supplies Department.
"LPG supply in Delhi is fully stable and under control," the chief minister said, urging people to keep calm, avoid rumours, and rely on the delivery system.
