A man accused of killing his wife over an argument around Rs 20 allegedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a moving train in Delhi's Shahadra. He jumped to his death while being chased by the officers in relation to the murder case.
According to a report by The Indian Express, 48-year-old deceased Kulwant Singh engaged in an argument with his wife, Mahendra Kaur, on Wednesday after asking for Rs 20 at their Kasturba Nagar house.
Kaur's response triggered an argument that escalated into an altercation. Singh strangled her to death on the roof of the house and took the body inside. Their son Shivcharan, who was at home when the police arrived, told the cops that his mother died by suicide.
The police, however, notices strangulate marks on the victim's neck and suspected foul play. By that time, Singh had absconded.
The police launched a manhunt for Singh. On Thursday, he was tracked down on the railway tracks. After noticing the police, the accused started running.
The police said that he jumped in front of a moving train to evade arrest. He was taken to a hospital but was declared dead. "In order to avoid arrest, he jumped in front of a moving train. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead," a police officer was quoted by The Indian Express. The couple is survived by two sons and a daughter.
