Delhi-NCR Weather: In a major weather update for the residents of Delhi-NCR, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that Thursday (April 23) was recorded as the hottest day of the year so far. While providing details, the weather department stated that the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.7 degrees Celsius, four degrees higher than normal. It further advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings, especially in the daytime hours.

Temperature Soars Above Normal

While providing details, the weather department stated that several regions of the capital city witnessed a surge in the temperature. The Ridge area emerged as the hottest spot as the maximum temperature was calculated at 43 degrees Celsius, 4.6 degrees higher than the seasonal average. While the temperature in Palam was recorded at 41.6 degrees Celsius, the temperature in Lodhi Road remained at 41.4 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in the night hours has also increased in the past two to three days, leading to major inconveniences. The minimum temperature was calculated at 25.4 degrees Celsius, 2.7 degrees higher than the normal. However, the department has clarified that despite a significant rise in temperature, a 'heatwave' situation has not developed yet.

As per the experts, a heat wave is declared when the maximum temperature at least two stations exceeds 40 degrees and remains 4.5 to 6.4 degrees above normal. The IMD stated that a heatwave is likely in Delhi and nearby cities for the next two days. However, the capital city is likely to witness light rain on Sunday, providing much-needed relief to the residents.

Along with Delhi, a heatwave alert has been issued for several other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh. The maximum temperature in these states is likely to be recorded between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius.
