Delhi Air Pollution: As air quality continues to worsen, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the central government's panel on Delhi-NCR's air quality on Wednesday, has reinstated more stringent restrictions in the nation's capital and surrounding areas. In the Delhi and NCR areas, GRAP Stage 4 limits have been reimposed.
In addition to the Stage I and II steps that are currently in effect, the Delhi pollution committee has decided to invoke all actions under Stage III ("Severe Air Quality of Delhi") and Stage IV ("Severe+" Air Quality of Delhi) of the existing Schedule of GRAP, with immediate effect.
“All actions of the GRAP schedule shall be implemented, monitored and reviewed by all the agencies concerned in the entire NCR to ensure that the AQI levels do not slip further. All implementing agencies shall keep strict vigil and intensify measures of the GRAP schedule. Citizens are requested to strictly adhere to the citizen charter under GRAP,” the statement added.
Following an improvement in Delhi's AQI due to rains, the CAQM lifted Stage 3 restrictions on January 12.
What's Restricted Under GRAP 4
The CAQM regulations require the governments of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to mandate that classes be held in schools for children, even those in higher classes (class VI through IX and XI) in a "Hybrid" format, meaning that they are conducted both in-person and online (whenever possible).
The prohibition on non-essential trucks entering Delhi, except trucks transporting necessities, is one of the other restrictions.
Another restriction is ban on construction activities of any kind.
