New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: In a bizarre incident, a 34-year-old man shot himself in the ear, only to find out that the bullet pierced his head and hit his wife, who was sitting next to him.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the man had an argument with his wife, following which he shot himself in the ear. However, the bullet came out of his head and hit his pregnant wife, who was sitting next to him, on her neck.
The couple were admitted to the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi after the freak incident. As per media reports, the woman, who is seven months pregnant, is out of danger. However, the man is struggling for his life and is admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.
The incident took place on Friday when the couple were heading to a hospital for routine checkup. According to Hindustan Times, an argument broke out between the two over the man being unemployed.
Following the argument, the man, who was in anger, shot himself in the ear but the bullet pierced his head and hit his wife on the neck. As per reports, people noticed the unusual incident and took the couple to the hospital.
A police official told The Hindustan Times that such incidents of a bullet passing through a body and hitting another person are rare but not unusual, if the victims are close to each other.
According to the police, 7.62 mm cartridge was used in the pistol and an investigation is underway to find out whether the man has a licence for the pistol or not.
“The ballistics report is awaited. We have registered a first information report (an FIR),” Hindustan Times quoted Deputy police commissioner (Manesar) Deepak Saharan as saying.
The police further informed that the couple is from Faridabad and lives at a rental accommodation in Gurugram’s Rampura. The couple had shifted there about five months ago.
According to Hindustan Times, the man had separated from his first wife in 2017 and married his second wife in 2019 after meeting her in Mathura.
