Jagran Correspondent | West Delhi: A 31-year-old software engineer allegedly died after being assaulted by his wife’s family members following a dispute at his residence in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Vinay Gupta, a resident of Laxmi Park. The prime accused, Rekha, wife of Gupta said, "Everyone is making a drama; nothing like that happened. They are lying to scare me." Four people have been detained for questioning.
What Happened On Friday?
The deceased family alleged that Gupta and Rekha had a fight on Friday, following which the latter called her maternal family to resolve the issue. As they arrived, the accused woman took them to her room, upstairs where Gupta was also present.
After a while, Vinay's mother heard screams coming from the room. She assumed Vinay was being beaten. She then heard her son screaming for help. When she went upstairs to the room, according to relatives, the men surrounded Vinay and were assaulting him, Jagran.com reported.
According to relatives, Rekha was standing nearby and, instead of stopping them, allegedly instigated them. Seeing his mother, Vinay tried to leave the room, but was allegedly grabbed by the men. It is alleged that Rekha grabbed her hand and pushed her mother-in-law out of the room. She pleaded with people to let Vinay go, but no one listened. She then called out to neighbors.
Hearing neighbors approaching, everyone began to flee. According to relatives, the accused, fearing arrest, even abandoned the car they had used to arrive at the scene.
What DId The Post-Mortem Reveal?
The cops said that the exact cause of Vinay's death is yet to be ascertained. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report is received. Police are questioning all the accused.
