As Eid and Navratri celebrations are going to coincide on Saturday, the Delhi police have deployed heavy security across the lanes of the capital to ensure fuzz-free commemorations. The area around Uttam Nagar has witnessed significant security. The additional patrolling comes days after a 26-year-old man died after a mob lynching in Holi.

Southwest Delhi's Uttam Nagar area has been highly secured to prevent any unprecedented incident during the festive season. Parts of the lanes are positioned with CRPF personnel and Delhi police. The entry and exit of each lane leading to the deceased's house are guarded with barricades.

According to the Times of India, the police officials are verifying the addresses of all the individuals attempting to enter the area. The unknown people are scanned thoroughly to avoid any unwanted episode in the lanes. Only local residents are being permitted to enter the area; others are restricted. Vehicles are also not allowed in the lane.

Additionally, several CCTV cameras have also been installed in the areas around the victim's house, even in the outer lanes of the village. According to a police officer, at least four to five companies of paramilitary forces and nearly 450 policemen were deployed to avoid any unwanted circumstances.

There's a sharp contrast between this year's Navratri-Eid celebrations and the previous year's. The typical scene would be tents put up around the lanes, kirtan music, children playing with manjira and dhols, along with celebrations of Eid. This time, the streets are isolated; the people are quiet.

The mostly merry situation turned dark and gory following the lynching of the man named Tarun.

What had happened on Holi?

The incident began when an 11-year-old girl, playing on a terrace, threw a water balloon at her father standing below. Some of the water accidentally splashed a woman from a neighboring family. Although the girl’s family apologised, the woman reportedly became enraged, called upon her relatives, and initiated a heated argument.

While the matter initially appeared to have been resolved, Tarun—a relative of the girl—was later ambushed while returning home on his motorbike. A group of approximately 15 to 20 people blocked his path and assaulted him with iron rods, bricks, and stones. Tarun succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment.
