DK Shivakumar is scheduled to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka at 4:10 PM at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, marking the formal transition of leadership within the Congress government.

This comes after Shivakumar was elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) during a high-stakes meeting at the Vidhan Soudha on May 30.

DK Shivakumar To Announce Eight Schemes

Soon after taking the oath as Chief Minister, Shivakumar is expected to announce eight schemes primarily targeting farmers and women. According to a report by The Times of India, citing party functionaries, these proposed initiatives will address agricultural distress, rural incomes, and productivity.

These initiatives are likely to emerge as flagship programmes of the new Shivakumar-led government.

Cabinet Formation Likely In Two Phases

Around 15 ministers are expected to be sworn in during the first phase of cabinet formation, while the remaining ministers will be sworn in after the Rajya Sabha election on June 18.

Open-Jeep Procession From Lok Bhavan To Vidhana Soudha

What was initially planned as a low-key affair to prevent traffic disruptions is expected to draw massive mobilisation of supporters. Large numbers of party workers from across the state, including the Old Mysuru region, are arriving in Bengaluru. Officials estimate that bookings have been made for more than 17,000 vehicles.

Additionally, senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal, and Siddaramaiah, are likely to attend. Shivakumar has also invited representatives from multiple faiths.

Following the oath ceremony, Shivakumar is expected to lead an open-jeep procession from Lok Bhavan to Vidhana Soudha. To manage a large crowd and ensure convoy safety, police have ordered a complete halt to traffic movement along the route.

Congress To Nominate Kharge, Mansoor Ali Khan For Rajya Sabha

Meanwhile, the Congress party has decided to nominate Mallikarjuna Kharge and Mansoor Ali Khan for its Rajya Sabha seats from Karnataka.

According to the report, the party is considering national leaders, either Supriya Shrinate or Pawan Khera, for the state's third seat.
