In another news, days after extending SIR exercise in several states, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled a new digital platform and announced plans to revive voter awareness programmes in educational institutions.

The poll body said the final electoral rolls, following the completion of the revision process and publication of the draft rolls, will be released on October 12 and October 19, depending on the state.

The announcement comes at a time when the Election Commission has been facing criticism over the SIR exercise. Several opposition parties have alleged that eligible voters were being arbitrarily removed from the electoral rolls.

The Commission has consistently rejected these allegations, maintaining that the revision is being carried out strictly in accordance with the law. Officials have also stressed that every voter has multiple statutory opportunities to challenge decisions or seek the restoration of their names in the electoral rolls.
