Badrinath Master Plan: The Uttarakhand government said the first phase of redevelopment projects underway at the Badrinath Dham under a master plan has been completed. With the completion of the first phase of work, the second phase of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious master plan has begun.

What Is Badrinath Master Plan?

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the master plan for the upgradation of facilities at Shri Badrinath temple, under which development work was carried out. The redevelopment works to improve the basic facilities at the Himalayan temple in Chamoli district have been done in the last five years. Rs 440 crore was allotted for the Badrinath master plan, which aims to boost tourism in the Himalayan state.

Yogesh Manral, Executive Engineer of Project Management Unit (PMU) of Public Works Department (PWD), which is working on the master plan, said that construction work is being carried out rapidly by setting targets for all the works including traffic in the Dham, pedestrian movement of pilgrims, street lighting, streamlining of commercial establishments, protection of river banks, sewer disposal as well as security and parking.

The divine and grand form of Badrinath Dham has started taking shape. Manral said that in the first phase of the master plan, the construction of one-way loop road, BRO bypass road, civic amenity building, Sheshnetra lake, Badrish lake, ISBT building, tourist management centre building and arrival plaza has been completed. The work of hospital extension building is in the final stages, he added.

Char-Dham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojana

The Centre also launched a mega project, Char-dham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojana, to boost tourism in Uttarakhand. The government took up the connectivity Improvement Program for Char-Dham (Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri) in Uttarakhand. The programme includes projects of improvement/development of 825 km length of National Highways at a total estimated cost of about Rs 12,595 crore. So far, 629 km has been completed and the percentage progress is 76% of the total length (825 Km).
