FSSAI Bans Old Monk Rum: Following the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) ban on Old Monk variants, including The Legend, Gold Reserve and XXX Matured Rum, the internet has been flooded with reactions with users mourning what they believe marks the end of the legendary dark rum, serving Indians since 1954.

The government regulatory body also imposed a ban on McDowell's No 1 Rum, Bagpiper Deluxe Whisky, Old Cask Deluxe XXX Rum, Central Province Whisky, McDowell's Celebration Rum, Antiquity Blue Whisky and Royal Challenge Whisky.

Internet Reacts After FSSAI Bans Old Monk Rum
An internet user wrote, “We don't care about all this when it is Old Monk. Time for OMJP. Old Monk Janta Party...Chalo Jantar Mantar !!!”
“Old Monk - Et Tu Brute?!” another user wrote bringing a hint of William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar.
Some users said the ban felt similar to a heartbreak. “Old Monk fans opening the news today like it was a breakup message. Dil bhi toot gaya... bottle bhi,” a user wrote.
Taking a dig, a user wrote, “Ethanol bola tha ban karne old monk kardi inhone.”
What Does FSSAI Say On Old Monk Ban
As per FSSAI, artificial flavours are being added in the concerned products instead of following proper ageing process. The regulator added that this practice goes against the food safety regulations, misleading the consumers.
"Few manufacturers are found to add flavour externally, which mimics the product's inherent aroma and taste, and sell the same as a standard product, thereby misleading consumers," FSSAI said in a statement.
