A wedding celebration in Abolod village of Gujarat’s Dahod district took a tragic turn after a suspected food-related incident triggered panic among guests. Of 1,200 guests at the feast, more than 400 reportedly fell ill, with several requiring hospitalisation. The sudden deterioration in health led to chaos at the venue, sparking fear and tension across the village.
According to those attending the wedding, villagers and guests ate a hearty meal that evening, but the effects began to manifest just two hours after the meal. The elderly were the first to experience stomach aches, followed by diarrhea and vomiting. Gradually, the number of people began to grow, and everyone, including children and young people, began to fall ill simultaneously.

The sudden deterioration in the health of so many people in the village created panic. 108 ambulances were rushed to the village. Those who could not find an ambulance immediately rushed to Dahod’s Zydus Hospital using their private vehicles or whatever means they could find.
Following the incident, by midnight the number of affected people had risen to over 400. The influx of such a large number of patients caused panic within the administration of Zydus Hospital, and the hospital staff was working on a war footing to treat the patients.

Upon receiving information about this serious incident, Garbada MLA Mahendrabhai Bhabhor immediately rushed to the hospital and, after assessing the condition of the patients, gave necessary instructions to the doctors. Initial estimates suggest that the paneer vegetable or mango juice served at the wedding may have caused this condition. However, health department teams immediately responded and began collecting food samples at the scene.
