Gujarat Shocker: In a shocking incident, a woman performed the last rites of her husband's body outside her home without any proper arrangements in Gujarat's Vadodara. As per the reports, Mahesh Rathodiya, the deceased, died due to extreme heat conditions and alcohol addiction. After his death, his wife Jasodaben informed relatives and sought their help but had to perform the last rites by herself due to their late arrival. She stated that a foul smell emerged from the dead body, propelling her to take the step.
Jasodaben, after waiting for hours, laid a blanket outside the hut and performed the cremation of the body by herself. However, the relatives, including the deceased's mother, were left shocked and devastated after watching the condition of the dead body. The Panigate police arrived at the site upon being informed and took the body under its control. The remains were later taken to Gajrawadi Ramnath Crematorium, where the last rites were performed properly.
On being asked about her decision to perform the last rites, Jasodaben stated that she was left hopeless after a foul smell started emerging from the body. "Foul smell had started coming from my husband’s body and insects were emerging from his mouth, which left me frightened and helpless," she was quoted as saying by the Bhaskar English.
"I did whatever I felt was right at that moment. I had gone out to collect scrap material and was unaware of what had happened. Later, my sister-in-law came and informed me about Mahesh. After that, we came here in a rickshaw," she added.
As per the initial investigation, Mahesh Rathodiya originally belonged to Baherampura village in Dabhoi taluka and has been residing in Vadodara for the past few years. He allegedly died due to the scorching heat and his old habit of alcohol consumption.
