In a tragic road accident in Gurugram, a 31-year-old civil engineer was arrested after his speeding car rammed into two men standing near a service lane, killing one and critically injuring the other. Police revealed that the driver, identified as Mohit, allegedly dozed off behind the wheel while returning from work, which led to the fatal crash.
The incident took place in the early hours of June 24, when two students, Harsh and Moksh, had arrived on a motorcycle at Chanchal Dhaba on the Delhi-Jaipur highway around 3 am. "The dhaba was crowded, so we were waiting for our turn. Meanwhile, Harsh met an old friend, Abhishek, and they stood near the service lane’s railing to chat," Moksh recounted.
Suddenly, a Skoda car came speeding down the service lane and crashed into Harsh and Abhishek, throwing them nearly 10 metres away. Both sustained severe injuries as bystanders chased the car, but the driver fled the scene as per News18 reported.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where Harsh, a law student, was declared dead. Abhishek is undergoing treatment for critical injuries.
CCTV footage from the area helped police trace the vehicle, leading to Mohit’s arrest. Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep stated that Mohit, during interrogation, confessed to falling asleep while driving home from work, which caused the collision.
An FIR has been registered at Sector 37 Police Station under charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence, following a complaint filed by Harsh’s father, Santosh Kumar.

The incident bears a disturbing resemblance to another recent case in Noida, where 59-year-old Rakesh Arora lost his life when the driver of his cab allegedly dozed off and crashed the vehicle into a stationary tempo. Arora was en route to the airport for a business trip to Bengaluru when the mishap occurred.
