A 26-year-old man was assaulted and robbed after being lured by a gang that had posted a fake advertisement offering a female dance partner online in Gurugram. The incident occurred when the victim, while planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve, contacted a number listed on the Just Dial website.

According to the police, the victim had been sitting at a club in Sector 29 on December 28 when he called the number seeking a female dance partner for a party on December 31. The caller assured him that arrangements would be made. The following day, he received another call asking him to come to Sushant Lok to meet the girl.

When the man reached the location on December 29, he found a car parked there with three youths inside, identified as Karan, Bhavishya, and Vishal. Vishal was driving the car, while Karan told the victim that the girl was on the way and asked him to get inside. Trusting them, the man entered the vehicle.

Soon after, the accused began assaulting him inside the car. They forcibly took his wallet and mobile phone, transferred ₹7,000 from his bank account using the phone, and also robbed Rs 3,500 in cash. The gang then abandoned the victim at a deserted spot and fled.

The victim lodged a complaint at the Sector 29 police station on December 30. Acting on the complaint, the Sector 40 Crime Branch arrested Bhavishya and Vishal on Thursday. Both are residents of Tijara, Rajasthan, and have been sent to three-day police remand.

During preliminary interrogation, police found that Karan was the mastermind behind the crime. He had posted the fake advertisement on Just Dial and used it to lure victims. Bhavishya, an MBA student at LIIT College in Alwar, and Vishal, who is unemployed after completing Class 12, were allegedly motivated by the prospect of making quick money. At Karan’s instruction, they travelled from Rajasthan to Gurugram to execute the plan.

Police have recovered Rs 3,000 from the arrested accused. Karan remains absconding, and search operations are underway to trace him.
