Haryana Election Results 2024 Highlights: BJP Retains Power By Winning 48 Seats, PM Modi Congratulates CM Saini; Congress Rejects Results

The BJP has secured a majority in Haryana, winning 48 seats of the total 90 seats in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. This is the third consecutive win for the saffron party in the state, a first by any party in Haryana. Meanwhile, Congress, which was dubbed to win the elections in the Exit Polls on Saturday, won 37 seats. Three independents and two INLD candidates have also won the Haryana Assembly Election 2024.

The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday responded to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh's claim that there was an 'unexplaied slowdown' in putting out fresh trends for Haryana on the poll body's website. Ramesh had raised the issue with the EC, which later told him that there was nothing on record to substantiate his "ill-founded allegation".

With the BJP poised for a comfortable win, leading in 50 out of 90 assembly seats, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and congratulated him on the BJP’s historic victory in the state. As per the latest trends, the BJP is set for a hat-trick of wins in the state, while the Congress is trailing after dramatic turnaround.

"Now that I have entered here, I will continue here. People have given me their love, I will have to work for them on ground. It is not possible to work on both simultaneously (politics and wrestling)," Vinesh Phogat said after winning from Julana seat.

"As per the input I have with me, we are touching the majority. Congress is getting the majority. There are several seats that we have won...but the same is yet to be updated. I have news that counting is stopped at several places. We are getting the majority. This is a game, the ball is sometimes here, sometimes there but we will do the final goal," Bhupinder Hooda said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his happiness over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading with above majority seats in the latest Haryana poll results on Tuesday and said that the saffron party would form a government for the third consecutive time.

Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli said the BJP was forming the government in Haryana and Nayab Saini would again take oath as the CM.  

BJP workers celebrate at the party office in Ambala, as counting continues. As per the latest EC data, the party is leading on 51 of the 90 seats.

As the trends signal a defeat for Congress, the party has questioned the Election Commission's conduct. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the top poll body of deliberately delaying the display of results on its website, similar to the trend observed during the Lok Sabha elections. He hinted that this might be a tactic to create pressure in favour of the BJP administration.

Haryana Election Result 2024: Congress candidate from Nuh Assembly constituency, Aftab Ahmed, has secured a massive victory on the seat defeating INLD's candidate Tahir Hussain by a big margin of nearly 47,000 votes.

Congress candidate Mohammad Ilyas has secured a big victory on the Punahana seat in Haryana. Ilyas garnered over 85,000 votes, winning by a margin of nearly 32,000 votes. Independent candidate Rashish Khan came second after receiving over 53,000 votes.

As per the latest EC data, the party has crossed the majority mark and is leading on 49 of the 90 seats.

As BJP was leading in the Haryana polls, Congress Jairam Ramesh questioned the slowing up of trends. Taking to X, he wrote, “Like the Lok Sabha elections, in Haryana, we are again witnessing slowing down of uploading up-to-date trends on the ECI website. Is the BJP trying to build pressure on the administration by sharing outdated and misleading trends?”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday expressed shock after the result trends by the Election Commission of India showed the BJP crossing the majority mark of 46 in Haryana. Meanwhile, Congress is leading on 35 seats. The trends have taken a massive turnaround, as early trends showed Congress way ahead of BJP in Haryana. 

"We have to wait and see. We shouldn't make a premature conclusion right now. At the moment, they (BJP) seem to be leading in a majority of the seats (in Haryana) which is a genuine surprise. Certainly, the whole exit poll industry must be in a deep disgrace. Honestly, let us wait for the final results. My own feeling is that the signs in Haryana are not what we were expecting and are better than what INDIA block was expecting in Jammu & Kashmir," Tharoor said. 

INLD's Abhay Singh Chautala is trailing against Congress's Bharat Singh Beniwal from Ellenabad, according to Election Commission. Chautala is trailing by 4,938 votes after three rounds of voting.

JJP leader and former Haryana deputy CM Dushyant Chautala is trailing in Ucchana Kalan seat.

BJP candidate from Ambala Cantt, Anil Vij is trailing by a margin of 1,199 votes after 2/16 rounds of counting, as per the latest EC data.

Congress' Rajya Sabha MP Kumari Selja reiterated that Congress was forming a majority government in Haryana and the party will amass more than 60 seats.  

Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda said the Congress was going to form the government amid the neck-and-neck fight in early trends.  

The BJP has gained momentum after trailing in the initial trends. The saffron party is now leading on 38 seats, as per the Election Commission of India. Meanwhile, Congress, which is dubbed to win the polls comfortably, as predicted by Exit Polls, is trailing behind the BJP and is leading on 31 seats. 

Official Election Commission trends coming in for 34 of the 90 Assembly seats. Congress leading on 18 BJP on 14 INLD on 1 Independent candidate on 1.

Wrestler-politician Vinesh Phogat is leading in J-K's Julana seat. 

Haryana's working CM Nayab Singh Saini is leading in Kurukshetra's Ladwa seat. 

Congress workers have gathered at party headquarters and distributed jalebis as the grand old party has crossed the halfway mark in Haryana. The Congress-NC alliance is heading towards a majority in J-K as well.

The Congress Party has crossed the halfway mark in Haryana by leading in 46 of 90 seats.  

Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda is leading in the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi Seat. BJP's Manju Hooda is trailing here.

The counting of votes for the Assembly Elections in Haryana has begun. The fate of 1,031 candidates in 90 Vidhan Sabha seats across all 22 districts in Haryana will be decided today. Poll officers were seen opening the strong rooms to take out EVM for counting.  

Jind DSP Jitendra Kumar Rana stated regarding the security arrangements for the counting process that approximately 19 checkpoints have been set up, with police personnel deployed at each checkpoint. He mentioned that the counting would be conducted peacefully. He also noted that Section 144 is in effect, and robust security measures have been implemented.

Several prominent candidates are vying for crucial constituencies in the Haryana assembly election, making these seats particularly noteworthy:

Ladwa: Chief Minister Saini aims for re-election in this constituency.

Garhi Sampla-Kiloi: Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda is contesting from his traditional stronghold.

Ellenabad: INLD leader Abhay Chautala, a significant opposition figure in Haryana, is competing for this seat.

Uchana Kalan: JJP leader and former Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala is defending his family's political legacy in this constituency.

Ambala Cantt: BJP stalwart Anil Vij, former minister, is contesting in this vital urban area.

Narnaund: Capt Abhimanyu of the BJP, former finance minister, is a key contender in this rural seat.

Badli: BJP’s O P Dhankar, another former minister, is a strong candidate here.

Kalayat: AAP’s Anurag Dhanda aims to make inroads in this constituency.

Julana: Congress’ Vinesh Phogat, an acclaimed wrestler, is making her political debut in this seat.

Ahead of the counting of votes in Haryana and J-K, Congress workers gathered outside the party headquarters and raised slogans in support of the party. 

Haryana Chief Minister and BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini performed puja at the ancient south-facing Hanuman Temple located in Brahmasarovar, Kurukshetra. Saini is contesting from the Ladwa constituency. The counting of votes will begin at 8 am.

BJP candidate from Panchkula, Gyanchand Gupta, said that they have received the blessings of Mata Mansa Devi and he was confident that the results will be very good. He expressed confidence in winning the Panchkula seat. He said the BJP was going to form the government for the third time in Haryana. Regarding the exit polls, he mentioned that in Chhattisgarh, the polls were also unfavourable, yet the BJP formed the government there. 

Haryana Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Ladwa Assembly constituency, Nayab Singh Saini, has reached the Saini Community Dharamshala in Kurukshetra ahead of vote counting. 

Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal stated that all preparations for the counting have been completed. All EVMs will be taken out from the strong rooms for the counting process. During this time, the Returning Officer and the Election Commission observers will also be present.

Most exit polls on Saturday predicted a decisive majority for the Congress in Haryana, with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressing confidence that his party would form the next government. Three out of the four polls projected Congress securing at least 50 seats, even at the lower end of the range.

The stage is set for vote counting in the Haryana assembly elections, with robust security measures in place. The counting process will start at 8 am, beginning with postal ballots, followed by EVM votes 30 minutes later.
