Kishtwar Landslide: Heavy rains triggered a massive landslide near the 540 MW Kwar Power Project in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar late Sunday night. The landslide crushed numerous vehicles parked in the area under heavy debris. Several vehicles sustained significant damage and remain trapped under the debris.
Efforts are underway by the administration to remove the debris, repair the affected area and safely take out the trapped vehicles. Meanwhile, the Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway in Doda has been shut at Prem Nagar in Doda since Sunday night amid heavy downpour and landslides.
Heavy Rain Alert Issued
Amid the deteriorating weather conditions, the administration has issued a heavy rain alert for Kishtwar and surrounding areas. For safety reasons, officials have appealed to all local residents and pilgrims to remain vigilant.
The administration has advised people to avoid non-essential travel and strictly follow the issued advisories. Officials have appealed for public cooperation and urged people to follow administrative regulations and stay safe during this difficult weather.
Jammu And Kashmir Hit By Cloudburts, Flash Floods
The southwest monsoon arrived in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on July 1. On its very first day, the monsoon triggered cloudbursts and flash floods that wreaked havoc across half a dozen districts, including Doda, Kishtwar, and Bandipora.
Following this, authorities closed multiple roads and launched emergency operations to evacuate residents from worst-hit areas.
Apart from this, the onset of the southwest monsoon has triggered widespread disruption across Jammu and Kashmir, forcing the suspension of Machail and Mindhal pilgrimages in Kishtwar district.
Earlier this month, two cloudbursts occurred in the Kaljugasar and Seru areas of Bhalesha in In Doda district, causing flash floods that cut off road connectivity to several villages. Similar cloudbursts hit the Gahan and Machipal areas of Sarthal in Kishtwar.
