A 26-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Hyderabad's Langar Houz area in the early hours of Friday. Police suspect she died by suicide while on a video call with a friend and have launched an investigation into the case.
The deceased, identified as Renuka, was a resident of Alwal. According to police, Renuka was found hanging in her hotel room. She was married, had a child, and worked at a restaurant and pub in the city. She married eight years ago and has a seven-year-old son. However, she was living separately from her husband.
Investigators said Renuka checked into the hotel with her alleged boyfriend, identified as Farukh at around 3 am on Wednesday. The man reportedly left the hotel at about 10:30 pm on Thursday, while she continued to stay in the room. The duo had been in a relationship for the past six months.
Langar Houz sub-inspector Syed Munwar Ali said, "The woman allegedly died by suicide while on a video call with her friend Satya at around 12.24 am. She had checked into the hotel with a man on Wednesday morning."
Hotel staff informed the police after discovering the incident. Officers rushed to the hotel, conducted a preliminary inspection of the room, and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
'I have a birthday gift for you': What Renuka Said Before Committing Suicide
After checking into the hotel, the couple ordered biryani. Hotel records show that Renuka ordered dinner at around 11:56 pm. Later, she made a video call to her friend, Satya. Police said she allegedly died by suicide during the call.
Later, Farukh left the room to attend a function. Around 12:30 AM, Renuka video-called a friend ahead of the latter’s birthday the following day, according to News18.
“I have a birthday gift for you," she told the friend before allegedly hanging herself in the hotel room.
Investigation further revealed that Farukh, a resident of Golconda, is also married and has three children. He was detained by the police and is presently in custody for questioning.
Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from the hotel, the woman's mobile phone, and other digital evidence. The man who checked into the hotel with Renuka is also being questioned to help investigators reconstruct the events leading up to her death.
Officials said the exact cause and circumstances of the woman's death will be determined after the post-mortem report and forensic examination are completed.
