Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday took a swipe at the Centre and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of his protest for statehood in Delhi, scheduled for July 20.

Speaking at a public event, CM Abdullah said, "On July 20, we will go to Delhi to demand statehood. BJP people should tell do we need to go to the White House and meet Trump to request statehood?"

He went on and said, "If in my country's capital, I can't get clearance of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, then tell us, we would book tickets and protest outside Donald Trump's house to demand statehood."

"If protesting at Jantar Mantar and outside Parliament won't help, then the BJP should clearly tell us where the demand for statehood should be raised," he added.

On BJP criticising him for inviting separatist Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Kashmiri to Jantar Mantar for the July 20 protest, Abdullah hit back, saying either separatism is wiped out or the government's claims are wrong.

He said PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have repeatedly claimed separatism has been wiped out. He said, "Both cannot be true at the same time."

"Either separatism has ended in Kashmir, as the BJP claims, or the person you call a separatist proves those claims wrong," he added.
