IMD Weather Update: Relief is on the horizon for those suffering from the intense heat and heatwave in North India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, rain, and even hailstorms in several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, starting May 28. With the change in weather, temperatures are also expected to drop.
Temperatures in Delhi have been reaching 45 to 46 degrees Celsius for the past few days. In Uttar Pradesh, areas like Banda, Prayagraj, and Varanasi have recorded temperatures of 47 to 48 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, approximately 80 to 90 per cent of the country is expected to experience pre-monsoon rains and thunderstorms between May 29 and June 5.
Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are already experiencing rain due to the active western disturbance in the Himalayan region. Its effects will be felt in the plains as well in the coming days.
Delhi Weather
Delhi is expected to have clear skies on May 27, with maximum temperatures ranging from 44 to 46 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is expected to be between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius, making it hot even at night.
A warning has been issued for light to moderate rain, strong winds, and lightning in Delhi on May 28 and 29. On May 29, strong winds with gusts of up to 60 kilometre per hour are possible. IMD has issued a yellow alert for this. Multiple spells of rain are expected both day and night.
Uttar Pradesh Weather
Light to moderate rain is expected in western and eastern Uttar Pradesh between May 28 and 31. This may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds with speeds of up to 40 to 50 kilometre per hour.
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for several areas of western Uttar Pradesh and Purvanchal, adjacent to Delhi, with winds of up to 80 kilometre per hour on May 28 and 29. This will provide relief from the heat, but there will also be a risk of damage due to strong winds and lightning.
Weather In Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu And Kashmir
Light to heavy rain is expected in Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir from May 28 to 30. Himachal Pradesh may experience heavy rainfall on May 28 and 29. Lightning warnings have also been issued for these states, including lightning and strong winds. People have been advised to remain vigilant due to the inclement weather in hilly areas.

Weather In Punjab, Haryana And Chandigarh
The weather in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh is also expected to change between May 28 and 31. Light to moderate rain and strong winds are expected. IMD has forecast strong thunderstorms and lightning in many areas on May 28 and 29. This will bring down temperatures and provide relief from the heat.
Rajasthan Weather
An alert has been issued for rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds for May 28, 29, and 30 in Rajasthan. Winds up to 70 kilometre per hour are expected in many areas.
Weather In Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh And Maharashtra
Thunderstorms and rain are expected in Madhya Pradesh between May 28 and 30. Similar weather conditions are expected in Chhattisgarh until May 30. Continuous heavy rain is expected in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra from May 28 to 30. Pre-monsoon rains have already begun in the Marathwada region. Continuous rain is also expected in Konkan, Goa, and Central Maharashtra until May 29.
Gujarat Weather
Rains accompanied by strong winds are likely to occur in Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat around June 1. According to IMD, pre-monsoon activities will intensify in many parts of western India in the coming days.
