Operation Sindoor Live Updates: Amit Shah Holds Meet With CMs, DGPs Of Border States After India's Strikes On Pak; PM Modi Meets Prez Murmu

Union Home Minister Amit Shah holds a meeting with Chief Ministers, DGPs and Chief Secretaries of border states. CMs of J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, West Bengal and the LG of Ladakh and the LG of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the Indian armed forces for carrying out targeted strikes at terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The prime minister chaired a meeting of the Union Cabinet, hours after 'Operation Sindoor' was launched to destroy terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

Soon after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Cabinet about Operation Sindoor, the entire Cabinet hailed the action and the prime minister's leadership with thumping of desks. Modi is also learnt to have said that his government will have zero tolerance towards terror. The prime minister also separately met the Defence Minister and NSA Ajit Doval and took stock of the evolving situation.

Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah reacts to Operation Sindoor, saying, "None of us want war...we want the situation to improve again, but first our neighbouring country (Pakistan) needs to put their guns down."

Addressing the joint briefing of Indian Army, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri says, "Our intelligence agencies monitoring terrorist activities have indicated that there could be more attacks on India, and it was felt essential to both stop and tackle them."

"On 22 April 2025, terrorists related to LeT and Pakistan attacked tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam and killed 25 Indian nationals and 1 Nepali citizen... They shot tourists in the head in front of their family members," he says.

The Defence Ministry will hold a media briefing on Operation Sindoor at 10.30 AM.

Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha takes stock of the situation in the border districts. "I'm closely monitoring the situation & govt is fully prepared to deal with any eventuality. I've also directed the DCs for shifting of villagers from vulnerable areas to safer locations and ensuring boarding, lodging, food, medicare and transportation. We will ensure safety of every citizen," he says.

After the Indian Army conducted Operation Sindoor against terror hideouts in Pakistan, the opposition Congress terms it a time for unity and solidarity. The party says it is standing firmly with the armed forces. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh says India's commitment to eliminating all sources of terrorism in Pakistan and PoK has necessarily to be uncompromising and always be anchored in the supreme national interest.

"This is a time for unity and solidarity. Right from the night of April 22nd, the Congress has been categorically stating that the government will have our fullest support in the nation's response to the Pahalgam terror attack," he said.

All educational institutions in the five border districts of Jammu will remain closed on Wednesday in the wake of the prevailing situation in the region, officials said. "In view of the prevailing situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed today," Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said on X.

In retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces early Wednesday carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke.

Wife of Shubham Dwivedi who lost his life in Pahalgam Terrorist Attack, says, "I want to thank PM Modi for taking revenge for my husband's death. My entire family had trust in him, and the way he replied (to Pakistan), he has kept our trust alive. This is the real tribute to my husband. Wherever my husband is, he will be at peace today."

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that a press briefing on Operation Sindoor will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Further details regarding the operation are expected to be shared during the briefing.

Earlier, India carried out its deepest strikes inside Pakistan's undisputed territory since 1971, according to CNN, successfully targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This marks New Delhi's most significant military action within Pakistani territory in over five decades.

Pakistan's military spokesperson and Director General of ISPR, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has confirmed Indian missile stikes claiming that 24 impacts have been reported. Addressing a press conference at 4:08 AM on Wednesday, "A total of 24 impacts have been reported by India, with different weapons." The DG ISPR said that so far 8 casualties had been reported.

According to the DGISPR, four strikes were carried out in Bahwalpur's Ahmedpur East, near the Subhan mosque. The Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah is a stronghold of the Jaish-e-Mohammad and its founder Maulana Masood Azhar. The JeM have been responsible for several terror strikes in India including the Pulwama attack. DG ISPR say one mosque in the complex was destroyed.

The ISPR also reported a strike in Muzaffarabad near the Bilal mosque. Strikes were also confirmed in Kotli, Muridke, Kotki Lohara in Sialkot and near Shakargarh.

US Secretary Marco Rubio tweets, "I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I echo POTUS's comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution"

US President Donald Trump has reacted to India's strikes on the hideouts of Pak-based terror groups, calling it a "shame". According to Reuters,  Trump said that the recent Indian strikes against targets in Pakistan and Pakistani-controlled Kashmir were a "shame." He said he had just heard about the intensification of hostilities that had occurred in recent hours.

Pakistan has acknowledged that India carried out airstrikes in areas of PoK including Muzaffarabad and Kotli. According to Pakistan's Dawn News, the Pakistani officials have called the strikes a "cowardly attack". Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said missile strikes were fired by India at Kotli, Bahwalpur and Muzaffarabad in a “cowardly attack” amid intense tensions between the two countries in the wake of a militant attack in occupied Kashmir, Dwn News reported. 

The Pakistani Army late Tuesday night violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Kashmir's Poonch-Rajouri areas. The Indian Army is responding to the artillery firing by Pakistani troops "in a caliberate manner". 

"Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution," the Indian Army said.

"These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable," it said.

India carried out Operation Sindoor hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir after midnight. India targeted the terror infrastructure from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed, the Indian Army said. Altogether, nine sites have been targeted.
