The Phu Quoc Visa Trap

While Vietnam's Island Phu Quoc offers visa-free entry to Indian national, the Embassy warns that this exemtion is strictly localised. Travelers frequently face complications when they attempt to move from the island to the Vietnamese mainland or encounter emergencies.

Mainland Restrictions: The visa-free access does not permit travel Vietnam's mainland destinations like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. A valid Vietnam visa must be obtained in advance for any travel beyond the island.

Emergency Risks: The Embassy cautions that in cases of medical emergencies, flight cancellations, or urgent departures, travelers without a mainland visa may face severe movement restrictions and legal hurdles.

Protocol For Lost Passports

The advisory also highlights a rise in cases of lost passports among Indian tourists in Vietnam. In such events, travelers must follow a specific legal process:

Police Report: An immediate complaint must be filed with the local police in the jurisdiction where the loss occurred.

Mandatory Stay: The process for an Exit Permit typically takes three to five working days, though it can take longer. Travelers are required to remain in the country until this clearance is granted.
