Hydrogen Train Inaugurated: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off India's first hydrogen train from Haryana's Jind, providing a major boost to the railways' connectivity. The much-awaited train will travel between Jind and Sonipat and will pass through 15 stations. Along with providing convenience to the passengers, the hydrogen train will also be beneficial for the environment and is considered sustainable.
Hydrogen Train To Carry 2,600 Passengers
While several developed countries, including Germany, France, Italy, China and Japan, operate hydrogen trains with two to four coaches, India's first hydrogen train has 10 coaches. The train will be able to carry 2,600 passengers at a time, and 34 more hydrogen trains will operate across the country in the coming years.
The hydrogen train was designed and developed in India and is based on indigenous technology. The train will be powered by hydrogen-generated electricity and will only emit water vapour instead of exhaust, resulting in zero carbon emissions. The use of green hydrogen eliminates the need for electricity and diesel, making the operation environment friendly.
Train To Operate Six Days A Week
The train will operate as services 74010 and 74009. During regular operations, the train will depart Jind daily at 7:40 am and arrive in Sonipat at 9:40 am. On its return journey, it will depart Sonipat at 10:30 am and arrive in Jind at 1 pm. The train will run six days a week. The maximum speed of the train will be 75 kmph.
Upon departing from Jind Junction, the train will reach Sonipat Junction via Jind City, Pandu Pindara, Lalit Kheda, Bhambheva, Ishapur Kheri, Butana, Khandrai, Gohana, Rabhra, Lath, Mohana, and Badwasni. On the return journey, the train will stop at all stations in the same sequence.
Along with the inauguration of the hydrogen train, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated eight projects worth about Rs 15,000 crore in the presence of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Governor Asim Kumar Ghosh.
