Railways News: IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), a subsidiary of Indian Railways, has taken several steps to address ticket fraud and the waiting list issue. The railway authorities have also begun initiatives to ensure hygiene inside Railways kitchens.
IRCTC Deactivates Over 30 Million Accounts
IRCTC has deactivated over 30 million suspicious user IDs, while 60 million accounts have been placed under verification. Thus, a total of 90 million user accounts are being monitored.
According to IRCTC officials, the move has been taken to prevent misuse in ticket booking. Additionally, 501 complaints have been filed against 4.18 lakh suspicious PNRs on the National Cybercrime Portal. This year, 13,343 suspicious email domains have also been blocked.
AI Eyes On Railway Kitchens
IRCTC has also significantly expanded its AI-based monitoring system to monitor food quality and hygiene. Now, 2,394 AI-enabled cameras have been installed in over 800 kitchens. These cameras detect nine types of problems, including not wearing headgear, not using transparent gloves, lack of cleanliness, rats, flies, and cockroaches. These cameras are so sensitive that they can easily detect objects as small as 7-8 mm (the size of an ant).

An artificial intelligence module has been developed by IRCTC to find anomalies in standard operating procedure using CCTV footage. With this module base Kitchens will be monitored pan India. The Artificial Intelligence module realises the value of their videos and photos with vision computing. It can detect an unexpected change or an event that does not conform to the expected pattern using their machine learning algorithms.
A senior IRCTC official explained that the AI system immediately detects issues and sends alerts. If the problem remains unresolved, the alert is sent to the manager, and action is taken against the person responsible within two hours.
Not wearing a headgear is the most common violation. On average, 350 alerts are generated daily. However, the effective error rate is only 10 per cent. Complaints are highest during weather changes. In 2025-26, IRCTC served approximately 600 million meals. As the network expands, AI monitoring is being further expanded.
