Jagran Correspondent, Kishtwar: A cloudburst in the Kishtwar and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir caused a flash flood in the lower regions, leading to severe damage to the infrastructure. As per the reports, several vehicles and other construction equipment near the under-construction Kwar hydroelectric project got completely submerged. A sudden surge in the water level has also blocked the National Highway 244, leaving tourists stranded for hours.
Cloudburst Leads To Damage
The officials, while providing details, stated that the heavy rain has caused severe damage to the construction materials. However, they assured that no individual was present at the site, adding that the Doda-Kishtwar Highway has also suffered damage. The vehicular movement on the highway was disturbed on Monday after the flashflood carried mud and debris on the route.
The officials arrived at the site upon receiving the information and began clearing and repairing the road. The authority stated that the situation was brought under control, adding that the weather remained clear on Monday. As per the officials, the cloudburst has also caused extensive damage in the upper regions of Prem Nagar in Doda district.
Multiple Vehicles Buried
As per the reports, the cloudburst has created a flood-like situation in the main market, and a large number of vehicles are buried under debris. Apart from this, the overflowing water and debris from the drain adjacent to the market damaged some houses and a temple in the low-lying area.
A cloudburst near the tunnel area of the under-construction 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project in the Kishtwar district has brought a huge amount of debris in the area, burying several trucks, dozers, and other construction equipment. The officials stated that operations are underway to rescue stranded vehicles and remove debris from the affected site.
Apart from this, the authority has also advised the locals and tourists to stay updated and plan their travel accordingly to avoid any inconveniences.
