In a frightening incident, a police officer was shot at by terrorists in Srinagar’s Eidgah on Sunday. He has been shifted to a hospital and the area has been cordoned off to track the attackers. Inspector Masroor Wani was playing cricket with the local boys at Eidgah ground when he was shot at by terrorists, news agency PTI reported citing officials.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the Kashmir Zone Police wrote, “Terrorists fired upon & injured Inspector Masroor Ahmad near Eidgah, Srinagar. He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigation reveals that a pistol was used in this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off, case registered.”
Following the incident, security has been tightened in the Eidgah area. The doctors said that the condition of the police inspector was critical. This comes just days after the member of the Border Security Force sustained injuries due to unprovoked firing and mortar shelling by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border.
Earlier on Thursday, as many as five Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter that broke out between armed forces and militants in the Machil sector, near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The infiltration bid was foiled by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Intelligence agencies in a joint operation.
According to official figures, out of the 46 terrorists who were killed in Jammu and Kashmir this year, 37 were Pakistanis, and only nine were locals.
