Jammu and Kashmir Monsoon Fury:Around 25 people have been evacuated as heavy monsoon rains caused flash floods in the Mendhar subdivision of Jammu and Kashmir's border district, Poonch. Intense rainfall on Friday caused water levels to surge across rivers and low-lying areas in Ari, Harnia, and Gursai, inundating residential areas and triggering landslides that caused devastating daily life. The Indian Meteorological Department said that flooding may occur over the next 24 hours. Following reports of stranded residents, police teams and rescue teams launched immediate rescue operations.

Officials Began Inspections

As officials began assessing the damage inflicted to the areas, they instructed people to avoid going near rivers and streams and to follow guidelines issued by the Meteorological Department and the administration.

Several families living in low-lying areas were relocated as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. The local administration stated that relief and rescue teams are alert and the situation is being continuously monitored. If the rainfall continues, additional relief teams will be deployed if necessary. Affected people have been assured of all possible assistance.

Director Meteorological Department (MeT), Srinagar, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that one or two spells of rain and thundershower are expected at many places on July 11 and 12, with heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu Division. He said temperatures will also go down by a few degrees for the next few days, and there is a possibility of rain along both axes of the Amarnath Yatra, including Baltal and Pahalgam.

Residents Share Their Response

Panic gripped the entire area as the deluge continued through the day. Officials fear further damage if the weather does not improve. Locals said, according to locals, the continuous heavy rain caused a sudden rise in the water level in mountain streams, and the water quickly entered populated areas Several connecting roads were also damaged, temporarily disrupting traffic.
