Amarnath Yatra 2026: Ahead of the 2026 Shri Amarnath Yatra, police in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday claimed to have three Over Ground Workers (OGWs). Authorities stated the individuals were about to join a terrorist organisation.
According to a report by Jagran.com, security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating materials from them.
Terror Plot Foiled In Shopian
Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched a targeted search operation in the Pudsu area of Shopian, leading to the arrest of three Over Ground Workers (OGWs). The three individuals, identified as Aijaz Ahmed Khanday, Arbaaz Ahmed Mir, and Nisar Ahmed Dar, all residents of the Begma area, had been missing from their homes since May 31, 2026.
Police recovered two hand grenades, approximately 2.5 kg of explosive material, four mobile phones, and four posters belonging to the banned terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) from them.
According to the report, citing sources, they were involved in establishing a fresh Hizbul Mujahideen network across South Kashmir, particularly within Shopian and its adjoining areas. The suspects are currently being interrogated.
Amarnath Yatra 2026
The devotees of Lord Shiva are geared up for Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, and arrangements for the annual yatra to the holy cave shrine of Baba Barfani are being made.
The Yatra will be conducted over a span of 57 days from July 3 to August 28 (Rakshabandhan). For the pilgrimage, devotees have to trek between 14 and 43 kms on foot to reach the shrine. The participants below the age of 13 and above the age of 70 would not be allowed to participate in the yatra as per the rules and regulations framed by the administration for 2026.
Lakhs of pilgrims, including thousands of pilgrims from Ludhiana, have already registered for the pilgrimage.
