Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner Visheshpal Mahajan on Thursday issued a notification revising passenger fares for buses, taxis, and e-autos in the first phase, announcing an overall hike of 18 per cent. The revised fare structure has come into effect from May 1, while the updated minibus fare list is expected to be released within a day or two.
Although the detailed minibus fare chart is still under preparation, the Transport Department has released an interim structure based on the first three kilometres. Authorities confirmed that the order is effective immediately from May 1.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive route-wise fare list for around 7,000 minibuses in the Jammu division is being finalised and is likely to be issued soon.
Under the new notification:
- In the Kashmir division (plains), fare has been revised from Rs 1.19 to Rs 1.40 per km per passenger
- In the Kashmir division (hilly areas), fare has increased from Rs 1.64 to Rs 1.94 per km per passenger
- In the Jammu division (plains), fare has been raised from Rs 1.12 to Rs 1.32 per km per passenger
- In the Jammu division (hilly areas), fare has increased from Rs 1.59 to Rs 1.88 per km per passenger
The Transport Department has revised minibus fares as follows:
- First 3 km: Rs 7 - Rs 8
- Up to 5 km: Rs 12 - Rs 14
- Up to 10 km: Rs 15 - Rs 18
- Up to 15 km: Rs 17 - Rs 20
- Up to 20 km: Rs 22 - Rs 26
Officials said revised rates will be implemented immediately until final route-wise fares are notified.
Tata Magic Auto Fare Revision
- First 3 km: Rs 7.35 - Rs 9
- Up to 5 km: Rs 12.26 - Rs 14
- Up to 10 km: Rs 14.72 - Rs 17
As per the government notification:
- Disabled persons, freedom fighters, cancer and thalassemia patients, deaf, dumb, and visually impaired passengers will receive a 50 per cent fare concession in J&K RTC and private transport vehicles.
- Students will be eligible for a 50 per cent discount during school and college commuting hours (morning and afternoon).
- Women warriors will also receive fare concessions upon producing valid identity cards issued by the District Sainik Board.
- Authorities have also mandated 50 per cent seat reservation for women and persons with disabilities in passenger vehicles.
