Jharkhand: Three Of Family Killed In Lightning Strike In Koderma District

Three persons of a family were killed in a lightning strike in Jharkhand's Koderma district, police said on Saturday. The incident took place at Nandudih village within Satgawan police station limits around 9.30 pm on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Saraswati Devi (36), her 17-year-old son, and her sister-in-law Mundirka Devi (78), they said.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination at Sadar Hospital in Koderma, sub-inspector SK Ram said. Circle officer of Satgawan block, Keshav Prasad Chaudhary, said Rs 50,000 has been provided to the bereaved family as immediate relief, and the full compensation of Rs 4 lakh each will be provided after completing the paperwork. The Jharkhand government provides Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin in case of death due to a lightning strike.

In a separate news, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that at least nine districts of Kerala are likely to face heavy rain in the next two to three days. As per the weather department, along with rainfall, these regions will also witness thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The rainfall will reduce the temperature by two to three degrees Celsius, providing relief from the scorching heat. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and plan their days accordingly.

While providing details, several districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kozhikode, are likely to witness rainfall at least till May 12. The continuous rainfall is likely to lead to waterlogging in the lower regions, leading to inconveniences to the residents.
