A massive fire broke out in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, reducing eight shops to ashes after a blaze erupted in the Bufliaz central market. No casualties have been reported.
The fire started around 5 am in the Bufliaz central market along the Mughal Road and quickly spread through several shops, most of which were made of wood and tin structures. Local residents, along with assistance from Army and CRPF personnel, immediately began firefighting efforts. They were later joined by teams from the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Despite swift action, there was extensive damage to property, with all goods inside the affected shops completely burnt. Indian Army personnel took charge of the situation early, and soldiers of the Romeo Force deployed water tankers to help control the flames. Working together with locals, they managed to bring the fire under control. The Indian Army stated that its soldiers act not only as protectors of the borders but also of every life and livelihood in Jammu and Kashmir.

How Did Fire Began?
According to reports, the fire broke out around 5 am and rapidly engulfed shops made of wood and tin. Local residents with the help of Indian Army began firefighting efforts, and the Fire and Emergency Services Department later joined the operation.
The blaze was brought under control within about 30 minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and homes. Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was triggered by a short circuit in one of the shops.

However, some local residents have alleged delays in firefighting response, claiming that the fire spread quickly due to the initial delay, resulting in significant damage to shops and property. They have also demanded the establishment of a permanent fire station in the area.
