The police have found crucial evidence during a probe linked with the case of Kalindi Express colliding with an LPG cylinder placed on the Kanpur-Kasganj railway track near Bilhaur on Sunday night. As per the probe agency, a few miscreants hatched a conspiracy to blow up the track and set the train on fire. Besides, the police have also not ruled out the possibility of a terrorist plot. Teams from ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad), IB (Intelligence Bureau), and NIA (National Investigation Agency) investigated the site on Monday.

The railways has registered a case with Shivrajpur Police Station in this regard. As many as six teams have been formed to probe the incident. Over 14 persons have been detained so far, four of them arrested by ATS from Lucknow.

 The bag and sweets box, which was found near the incident site, are from a shop in Chhibramau, Kannauj. The police have interrogated the shop owner and seized the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the cameras installed there.

At 8:25 AM, 17 kilometres before Bilhaur, Kalindi Express collided with an LPG cylinder placed on the railway track right after Muderi Crossing. Following a loud explosion, the locomotive pilot applied emergency brakes and stopped the train. The cylinder landed over 50 meters away after the train collided with it. It was dented in several places, and scrape marks were found on the tracks.

A petrol bomb, a bag containing a box of sweets filled with a powder resembling explosives, and a matchbox were found at the scene. The powder is suspected to be ammonium nitrate, which is commonly used for explosions. Fortunately, there was no damage, and the train resumed its journey 25 minutes later.

DCP informed that a large number of Jamaatis visit the shrine located near the crossing. Information about them is being gathered. Three history sheeters from the area are also being questioned. A dog squad has also been deployed to inspect the area. ATS IG Neelabh Chaudhary stated that the incident is serious and an investigation is underway. Kannauj RPF Station In-charge Omprakash Meena mentioned that based on the items found at the scene, there is suspicion of a conspiracy to blow up the track and set fire to the train.

Prior to this incident, attempts were made to derail the Sabarmati Express near Panki on the Kanpur-Jhansi route.
