Karnataka Power Shift: Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Chief Minister, is likely to submit his resignation today amid the indications of a leadership transition in the government. As per the news agency PTI, Siddaramaiah had sought an appointment from Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, intensifying the speculations. However, the Congress veteran has not yet agreed on the Rajya Sabha seat offer and is likely to continue in state politics, reported NDTV, citing sources.
As per the reports, the oath ceremony for the next government, most likely to be headed by DK Shivakumar, is likely to take place on May 30. While Shivakumar will be the chief minister, the key portfolios are likely to be given to the close associates of Siddaramaiah. Apart from this, the current chief minister has also reportedly pushed for multiple deputy chief ministers.

Siddaramaiah is expected to discuss the finer details of the next setup with the party high command in the evening hours today in Delhi. The reports also suggest that the 77-year-old leader has invited all the cabinet ministers for breakfast on Thursday. While the party has denied any such transition in Karnataka, the high-profile meeting in Delhi earlier on Tuesday caught the eye. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah were summoned to Delhi to attend a meeting with party senior leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal.
As per the reports, the high command urged the chief minister to move into national politics through the Rajya Sabha. Siddaramaiah was told that he is a major OBC face, and the Congress wanted him to play a key role beyond Karnataka, reported NDTV. However, the Congress leaders maintained that the meeting was held around discussions on the Rajya Sabha polls and Karnataka Legislative Council elections.
