Kerala Elections 2026: Kerala is heading to the polls on April 9, with 140 Assembly seats up for grabs. While every seat matters, certain constituencies could play a big role in determining the outcome. There are many places where elections are tight, voter trends are unpredictable, and small swings could tell a bigger story about how the state is leaning.

The main contenders remain the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is aiming to expand its footprint.

Here are the constituencies to watch closely:

- Nemom

Nemom is one of Kerala’s most closely watched constituencies because all three fronts have significant support here. The BJP won this seat in 2016 but lost it in 2021, with the last margin being fewer than 4,000 votes. This year, the contest features the following:

  • V. Sivankutty (LDF)
  • Rajeev Chandrasekhar (NDA)
  • K.S. Sabarinadhan (UDF)

With such strong candidates from each alliance, Nemom is set for another nail-biting three-way battle.

- Thrissur

Thrissur is infamous for razor-thin victories. In 2021, the winner led by just 946 votes. Here, even a small shift in support can change the outcome, making Thrissur a perfect or a big change in Kerala’s politics.

- Palakkad & Manjeswaram

Palakkad saw one of the closest contests in the last Assembly election, with margins of just a few thousand votes. Political strategies and potential vote splits could play a decisive role this time.

At the same time, Manjeswaram has recorded some of the thinest margins in Kerala’s electoral history, just 89 votes in 2016 and 855 in 2021. Every vote counts here, making it one of the most unpredictable seats in the state.

- Vattiyoorkavu

Vattiyoorkavu is another three-way battle that voters are watching closely like Nemom. The BJP has grown stronger here, often finishing second, while the LDF and UDF fight to hold their ground. It’s a place where the battle lines could shift at the last moment.

- Peravoor

Peravoor features a high-profile contest between prominent leaders:

  • Sunny Joseph (UDF)
  • K.K. Shailaja (LDF)
  • Paily Vathiatt (NDA)

This constituency will test whether the opposition can challenge the dominance of established LDF leaders.
