Over the years, LDF and UDF have been alternatively coming to power in Keralam. The equation saw a change in 2021 when LDF retained hold of the state. It will be interesting to see on May 4 whether LDF can secure a third successive win in the state.

Keralam Election 2026 Voter Turnout

The Keralam Assembly Election saw a massive voter turnout of 87.2 per cent across 140 seats. In 2021, the state recorded a turnout of 77 per cent. The voter turnout in 2026 was the highest in over the last 20 years, making the contest even more interesting.

Keralam Exit Polls: Previous Trends

Since the 1980s, exit poll predictions have usually been accurate in identifying the winner in Keralam. The 140 constituencies in the state are mostly decided by narrow margins and pollsters have been good in reading the bipolar contest between LDF and UDF. However, the exact seat tally and last minute shifts have confused pollsters as well, resulting in not so precise projections.

Keralam Assembly election 2026 was held in a single phase on April 9. The results for the same will be declared along with West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry on May 4.

What Are Exit Polls?

Observations for exit polls are done as soon as people come out after voting. People are usually asked about their age, gender and party they voted for to get estimates and understand voting patterns. Exit polls are released ahead of the actual results announced by the ECI. Since exit polls are recorded on the voting day, they can tell the voter mood; however, exit polls often turn out wrong or incorrect. Sampling size is also an aspect that plays a role in exit poll predictions.
