An astonishing incident involving the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines surfaced when a family was denied boarding their flight at the Bengaluru airport, even though they had spent nearly Rs 49 lakh to fly internationally.
Reports say that the family caught a flight for departure in ample time; they had purchased eight permanent business tickets but could not board the flight before take-off because they did not have the right visa to enter Peru, according to the staff of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
However, the family disputes this accusation and stated that there are exemptions from having a separate Peruvian visa for any traveller with a valid visa granted by any of the countries in the Schengen zone, the UK or the USA and therefore the rule was misapplied to them.
Following the airline's refusal to board the family, the family escalated the dispute to the court, and the court has reportedly taken note of the events and ordered that an FIR be filed against the senior airline officials.
The family also asserts that they were red-flagged by the airline for objecting to the denial of their boarding, and this resulted in detrimental effects on their future travel, including some family members being questioned when they travelled internationally after the incident.
