Atiq Ahmed News LIVE Updates: UP Police Convoy Carrying Atiq Ahmed Reaches Prayagraj From Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Jail

Police personnel reach Prayagraj with mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed from Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Jail.

The Uttar Pradesh Police convoy carrying gangster Atiq Ahmed will reach Prayagraj in the evening today. The police team, which is bringing Ahmed from Sabarmati jail in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, is expected to arrive in Prayagraj by 6 PM. Atiq is supposed to be presented before a special court in a 2007 kidnapping case.

A police vehicle carrying gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed hit a cow in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning before the convoy entered Jhansi on its way to Prayagraj, a police official said. A video of the incident which occurred at around 6:25 AM shows a cow darting towards the road when it was hit by the vehicle carrying Ahmed. The cow fell near the road divider. 

Murdered advocate Umesh Pal's mother Shanti Devi says, "We will accept the Court's order but I want to say that I will be satisfied when he (Atiq Ahmed) dies, just like he murdered my son..."

"We are ready to accept all the judgement. We are worried about his (Atiq Ahmed) safety. We are following him from Rajasthan," says Ayesha Noori, Atiq Ahmed's sister.

"After court's order, he is taken to the Prayagraj court. Tomorrow is his judgement for which he is being taken to Prayagraj. We will accept whatever verdict the court gives. We will go to High court if we will not get justice," says Vijay Mishra, Atiq Ahmed's advocate.

Gangster Atiq Ahmed's brother Ashraf to be transferred to Prayagraj jail in connection with the kidnapping case in which Atiq is also an accused. The Allahabad High Court has ordered that if his (Ashraf) jail transfer is done then proper safety should be provided to him, ANI quotes Ashraf's advocate Ashish Srivastava as saying.

The former Samajwadi Party MP alleged the pretext of appearance in the Prayagraj court was just part of the plot to kill him. "Court ke kandhe pe rakh ke maarna chahte hain (They want to kill me under the pretext of court appearance)," he said.

"Hatya, hatya (murder, murder)," Atiq Ahmed was heard telling the reporters outside the prison while the police whisked him away.

"Mujhe inka programme maloom hai...Hatya karna chahte hain (I know their programme...They want to murder me)," he claimed.

Earlier, the UP Police convoy taking Atiq Ahmed halted in Kota, Rajasthan. The gangster is being taken to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, where he will be presented before a special court.

As Uttar Pradesh Police reached to bring gangster-turned-politician to Pryagraj Jail, Samajpati Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav suspected that Atique Ahmed could be killed on the way.

"The CM (Yogi Adityanath) must have told him (UP minister JPS Rathore) earlier where and how the car would be overturned. If you take help from Google and America, they will show how and when the car was overturned," ANI quoted Akhilesh Yadav as saying.

A 45-member team of Uttar Pradesh Police will shift gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed to Prayagraj jail, said officials as quoted by ANI.

DG (prisons) Anand Kumar said that preparations have been made for Atiq in the Prayagraj jail. The jailed politician will be kept in a high-security barrack with a round-the-clock CCTV camera for surveillance.

Earlier in the day, a team of Prayagraj Police reached the Sabarmati jail. A video of the same was also shared by the news agency ANI. It shows officials standing outside the gate of the jail as they wait for Atique Ahmed to be brought outside.

Ashraf, the brother of Atique Ahmed, will also be brought to Prayagraj in connection with the kidnapping case, the same case in which Atique is accused of.

According to an order by an Uttar Pradesh Court, the verdict in a kidnapping case will be pronounced on March 28. All accused in the case, including Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf, have been directed to be produced before the court on the day.

Atique Ahmed On Sunday stepped out of the Sabarmati Jail as a team of Prayagraj Police takes him with them.
