Mahakumbh Mela 2025 Live Updates: The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj began in the early hours of Monday on the holy occasion of Paush Purnima. Almost 1.5 crore devotees are expected to visit the city in the next 45 days. Lakhs of devotees are expected to take a holy dip at the Sangam under tight security measures. The event referred as the largest gathering in the world started with the 'Shahi Snan' on the rare celestial alignment that takes place only once every 144 years. The grand religious event will conclude on February 26.
The three major bath events will be on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami). Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to all the pilgrims by stating that he felt "delighted" that thousands of people have turned up for the grand religious event on the very first day.
Earlier on Sunday, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described Maha Kumbh as a rare chance for the people from across the countries to experience the cultural richness of the state and India. The Namami Gange team on Sunday also organised a 'yagya' at the Sangam in which over 200 Ganga Sevadoots and thousands of pilgrims participated. They emphasised on the importance of river Ganga in our daily lives. Besides, NDRF teams and Uttar Pradesh Police’s water police units on Sunday also did an inspection ahead of the grand event.
