Maharashtra Bandh Today: The Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has called for a Maharashtra bandh on Thursday to support the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest in New Delhi. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ambedkar stated that the bandh has been called against the police action on the protesting students earlier on Monday. He has also urged the like-minded political parties and organisations to participate in the protest.
'Like Minded Parties Invited'
"In light of the brutal attack and lathi-charge on students protesting peacefully in Delhi, Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi has called for a Maharashtra Bandh on July 23 in support of the students and in protest against the police brutality," Ambedkar stated in his post.
Earlier, the VBA founder had also visited the Jantar Mantar protesting site to meet the agitated students and assured his support to the CJP. While reminding lessons of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, his grandfather and architect of the Indian constitution, Prakash Ambedkar stated that protest must be valued in a healthy democracy.
What To Expect?
As the announcement was not made by the Maharashtra government, the schools, colleges and hospitals are likely to function as usual. Apart from this, the Mumbai local train services, metro, and local public transport are also likely to operate usually. However, the commuters can face inconveniences in some regions due to the traffic congestion.
Maharashtra police are expected to deploy additional forces in several key cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur, to maintain law and order. The residents have been advised to follow the guidelines and plan their days accordingly to avoid any inconveniences.
Along with VBA, the supporters of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and NCP (SP) are also likely to participate in the bandh. Earlier, both Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar visited the Jantar Mantar to support the protesting students.
