Meerut Metro: The launch of the Meerut Metro has brought a major shift in the city’s daily commute, significantly cutting travel time to Begumpul from nearly 30 minutes to just 10 minutes. For thousands of residents, this has meant smoother, faster and more dependable journeys.
Until recently, students and office-goers from Meerut and neighbouring areas struggled with heavy traffic, unpredictable delays and the daily rush to find autos or buses. Reaching on time often depended on luck. The 21-kilometre city stretch of the metro can now be covered in around 30 minutes, offering a structured and time-bound alternative to congested roads.
Students were among the worst affected earlier. Many had to leave home at least an hour in advance for school or college, with no assurance of punctuality. The situation has now improved. Commuters travelling towards Delhi or Ghaziabad can board the Namo Bharat train and arrive at their destinations quickly and without the earlier stress.

The improved connectivity has transformed daily life for students and working professionals alike. Many say the combined services of the Namo Bharat and the metro have made commuting more organised and affordable.
One regular commuter, Vikas Kumar, shared, "I'm from Ganganagar and study at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Inter College. Previously, it cost 30 to 40 rupees to reach Begumpul. I had to take an auto-rickshaw every day, and the route was crowded. I was forced to leave early to arrive on time. Now, traveling by metro is more comfortable. It saves time and reduces expenses."
Another commuter said, "I work in Noida. I used to be late arriving. Now I can reach there from Meerut in just 40 minutes. Earlier, I had to get off at Meerut South, but now I can reach Begumpul directly. Autorickshaws used to charge more at night. I book tickets online. The price is also fixed. I have got rid of many hassles. After the start of the metro, traveling has become easier. Now I save time and money too."
Tripta, who travels from Delhi, added, "I'm from Delhi. It used to take me a long time to get to Meerut. Since the Namo Bharat Express started, travel has become much easier. Now, for just Rs216, I can reach Meerut in just 45 minutes. The Metro has also made commuting to Meerut easier. This has brought me great relief and reduced my expenses."
