Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav conducted a review of the blackout during the state's civil defence mock drill via video conference from the State Command Centre.

As part of the mock drill, Gurugram in Haryana will experience a full-night blackout to simulate a no-light zone, according to Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar.

All areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council will witness a blackout from 8 pm to 8:15 pm today. According to DDMA, power supplies will be shut in Connaught Place and Lutyens Delhi areas.

Some areas in Mumbai, including Anushakti Nagar, Govandi, Atomic colony and Tarapur, will witness blackouts from 8 PM as a part of the Civil Defence Mock Drills conducted across the country today.

The Ahmedabad Collectorate has finalised nine locations for the civil defence mock drill, “Operation Abhyas,” set to take place at 4 PM on May 7. Ahmedabad Rural SP Om Prakash Jat also confirmed that a blackout will be held from 7.30 PM to 8 PM. The drill will be conducted at sites including Vatva GIDC, Sabarmati’s Torrent Power Plant, Palladium Mall, Tata Plant in Sanand, Pirana Substation and other industrial and municipal locations.

More than 55 schools in Delhi held emergency drills on Wednesday as part of ‘Operation Abhyaas,’ following the Union Home Ministry’s orders after the April 22 terror strike in Pahalgam. The drills were conducted to prepare students for emergency situations and included steps like safe evacuations, turning off electrical appliances, and taking shelter during alerts.

At Amity School in Saket, the drill began at 8:45 AM with an explanation during morning assembly. Principal Divya Bhatia said students were guided on safety steps before participating in the drill to understand procedures through practical experience.

A 10-minute blackout will take place in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday as part of a security mock drill, officials said. The exercise will focus on the Indian Veterinary Research Institute and nearby areas. Residents have been asked to turn off all lights, including inverter-powered ones, and avoid using torches, matches, mobile phones or flashlights during the drill.

Security drills will be conducted at six locations across Jharkhand on Wednesday, following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs. These exercises come in the wake of heightened tensions after India's strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Scheduled between 4 PM and 7 PM, the drills will take place in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Godda and Sahibganj, in collaboration with civil defence teams. The Ministry has initiated this nationwide preparedness plan due to “new and complex threats” after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.

A mock drill was held in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, where civil defence teams trained citizens on emergency preparedness. District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar shared, "Initial training sessions were conducted, followed by live demonstrations. The health department team also showcased CPR techniques and basic life-saving procedures during emergencies."

The Chandigarh administration has announced a 10-minute blackout drill scheduled for Wednesday evening, urging residents to switch off all electrical lights during the exercise. According to Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, the drill will begin at 7:30 PM and continue till 7:40 PM. Air raid sirens will sound for the duration of the drill. Yadav requested citizens to stay indoors during this time to effectively simulate a blackout situation and test emergency preparedness.

After the siren sounds, selected locations in the MMR will undergo 5-minute power blackouts. The exercise aims to simulate a hostile attack, testing the ability of civil defence forces to reduce casualties and limit damage during emergencies.

Mock drills were conducted in over 800 schools across Bokaro to prepare students for crisis situations. As sirens sounded early on Wednesday, students swiftly took cover under their desks, using their school bags to shield their heads. The exercise was designed to teach students how to stay calm, maintain discipline, and prioritise personal safety during emergencies.

Traffic movement in Hyderabad will be temporarily restricted on Wednesday, May 7, between 4 and 4:30 PM as part of a civil defence mock drill simulating an air strike. The exercise, named ‘Operation Abhyaas,’ will take place at four key locations—Secunderabad Cantonment, Golconda Cantonment, Kanchan Bagh and Nacharam—within the Outer Ring Road. Emergency vehicles will have uninterrupted access during the drill, which includes power blackouts, sirens, and public announcements. Conducted by NDMA and state agencies, the simulation comes in the wake of India’s recent retaliatory strikes. Officials have requested public cooperation and urged people not to panic during the activity.

On May 7, mock drills will be held at three locations in Pune district—Council Hall in Pune city, Panchayat Samiti office in Mulshi and the Municipal Council office in Talegaon. The exercise, part of a nationwide preparedness initiative, will begin at 4 PM with a siren. According to District Collector Jitendra Dudi, personnel from civil defence, Army, Air Force, Police, Fire Brigade, NDRF and various departments will take part to test emergency response systems.

Bengaluru will participate in the nationwide civil defence mock drill, “Operation Abhyaas,” on May 7, as per the Ministry of Home Affairs’ guidelines. The exercise, set to begin at 4 PM, aims to assess emergency response capabilities and train civilians on how to stay safe during crises.

The first drill in Karnataka will take place at the office of the Director General of Civil Defence in Bengaluru. 

In Hyderabad, a civil defence official stated that sirens will be used to alert the public as part of a mock drill on Wednesday. The first siren, scheduled for 4:00 PM, will signal the beginning of an air raid simulation across areas within the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Residents will be expected to voluntarily take cover upon hearing the alert.

A second siren will go off at 4:30 PM, marking the end of the drill. The alerts will be broadcast through industrial sirens, police and fire department vehicles, and other public announcement systems. Each siren is expected to last around two minutes to ensure clear communication of the drill stages.

At 4 PM on Wednesday, sixty air raid sirens will sound across Delhi, marking the start of "Operation Abhyaas," a nationwide civil defence drill. The exercise will simulate emergencies, including air raids, urban fires, and casualty evacuations, to test the city's wartime readiness. Over 55 locations across Delhi will coordinate action. A brief blackout is also planned at 7 PM, though its extent across the city remains unconfirmed.

Mumbai Police and BMC have issued public notices advising citizens to remain calm during the siren and blackout simulation, which will begin at 4:00 PM.

The Odisha Fire and Disaster Management Department is preparing for a Civil Defence mock drill in Bhubaneswar.

The Union Home Ministry has directed all states to carry out mock drills on Wednesday to address "new and complex threats" in light of heightened tensions with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.

The nationwide mock drill on May 7 will commence at 4 PM, with timings varying by location.

Delhi: The drill will run from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh): The drill, rescheduled to 4 PM, will take place at the Reserve Police Lines, as per SSP B Murthy.

Bareilly (UP): A district-wide blackout will occur from 8 PM to 8:10 PM. DM Avinash Singh has urged residents to turn off lights, inverters and avoid using phones or flashlights.

Kerala: Mock drills across 14 districts will begin at 4 PM, according to official sources.

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh): An air raid simulation at Kotha Jalaripeta will start at 4 PM, followed by a blackout at 7 PM in Kotha Jalaripeta and Oxygen Towers.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Sirens and hooters will sound at five key locations, including Dhara Police Chowki and the District Magistrate Complex, starting at 4 PM.

Kalpakkam (Tamil Nadu): The drill at Madras Atomic Power Station and Chennai Port Trust will take place from 4 PM to 4:30 PM.

Lalit Jaswal from Civil Defence in Ghaziabad outlined the use of three distinct siren sounds during the security drill, each conveying a specific message:

First siren: A warning to remain alert

Second siren: A signal to move to a safe location

Third siren: An all-clear message, indicating that the immediate danger has passed but caution should still be exercised.

These coded sirens are designed to guide the public in taking timely and appropriate actions.

Following directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, a civil defence mock drill will be held on Wednesday at 16 sites across 10 districts in Maharashtra, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

A senior Civil Defence official told PTI that over 10,000 participants—including Civil Defence volunteers, NCC cadets and Home Guard personnel—will take part in the exercise. The drill is part of a larger nationwide initiative aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

India on Wednesday announced that it carried out military strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.

According to a statement by the Indian Army, the operation—codenamed Operation Sindoor—hit nine locations linked to terror activities.

The Army said the strikes were carried out recently and described the actions as “focused, measured and non-escalatory,” aimed specifically at neutralising sources of planned attacks against India.

Srinagar Police, along with the tourist police and SDRF, conducted a mock drill on Dal Lake to test emergency response readiness. The exercise followed the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including 25 tourists. The drill focused on scenarios like boat capsizing and drowning, with teams practising rescue operations using proper gear and protocols. Officials said the SDRF has strengthened its capabilities and the exercise highlights the police’s commitment to public safety and swift emergency response.
