Cockroach Janta Party member Abhijeet Dipke challenged the Delhi police for releasing the entire video, accusing them of mental torture during detention. The CJP member said that the cops did not allow him to contact his lawyers or use his phone. "You are showing an edited version. If you have the courage, show the entire video so that people can understand how you denied me my basic rights. Allowing a person to call their lawyer after arrest or detention is a legal right," Dipke said.

Reaching his hometown, Hingoli, Maharashtra, following his grandmother's sudden demise, the CJP leader slammed the Delhi cops, claiming they did not inform his parents or lawyers about his whereabouts throughout the day.

"Delhi Police did not even allow me that, and now they are taking the moral high ground. They did not tell me, my parents or my lawyers where I was being held, which police station I was in or where in the country I had been taken. They did not inform anyone throughout the day."

Dipke then alleged that around 3.30 am the police asked him to call his parents and tell them about his detention. The youth-led party founder claimed he did not want his parents to receive another shock (his detention) in such a short span of time. "At 3.30 am, they deliberately wanted me to call my parents and cause them further distress when they had already lost my grandmother. Was I supposed to give them another shock by telling them that their son was going to be jailed for a long time?

Dipke accused Delhi police of mentally torturing Dipke and his family. "Delhi Police was mentally torturing not just me but my family as well. Did the Delhi Police tell my family where I was being held? They kept telling me to speak to my parents, but did they tell my parents which jail or police station I was in? If they did not, why not? Why did they not tell them? Did they have no humanity?".

What did the police say?

The Delhi police had previously  released a video wherein Dipke was informed about his grandmother's demise. The cops alleged that they offered Dipke assistance to travel to his hometown, however, Dipke declined the offer.  Deputy Commissioner of Police Neha Yadav said officers also offered assistance with flights, phone calls and other arrangements.

According to Yadav, the officers approached Dipke soon after receiving information about his grandmother’s death and repeatedly asked whether he wanted to speak to his parents. She said he declined the assistance offered by the police. When police informed Dipke about his grandmother’s demise and gave him the option to go, he said, “I will stay here."

The Delhi police on Saturday detained CJP leaders, Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka from a flight at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The three were taken to three distant places in the NCR and were released nearly after 24 hours.

The CJP protest

The protest in Delhi came after  days after a controversy over a report by The Indian Express that the two Election Commissioners had raised objections to the aspects of the SIR 14 times over the past 10 months. The Election Commission denied the report's claims, saying that differing views and comments were a normal part of discussions, but all decisions taken were unanimous.
