Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke was placed under preventive arrest after he was detained during a march towards Delhi's Connaught Place before the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' Protest. Neha Bora, the chief of All India Students' Association (AISA), was released early on Saturday morning.
The Delhi Police said that Bora was released after formal procedures under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. The section grants power to Delhi Police to detain a person for ignoring the directions in law and order situation. The police can either produce the person before the magistrate or released them for trivial cases within 24 hours.
Dipke, however, was put under preventive arrest in action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for a breach of peace. The Delhi Police will produce him before the Executive Magistrate (SEM) court, which had granted him a conditional bail on October 10 requiring him to maintain peace for one year.
CJP's legal head Rantna Singh alleged that Dipke's location was still unknown as lawyers haven't met him. Bora, after her detention ended, alleged protesters were being arrested for no valid reason and kept in the custody for hours.
"For a very long time in this country, it has been the case that people are detained without any valid reason and made to sit [in custody] for hours. This has become even more apparent now, as it is happening daily within the ongoing movement. We see protesters being apprehended and detained, only to be released the following morning or evening," said Bora.
She also demanded an immediate release of Dipke and other protesters. "Abhijeet should be released. I wasn't even aware he had been detained. All other protesters who have been illegally detained should also be released immediately," she added.
Dipke and Bora were both detained after the police denied permission for the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest at CP's Central Park. However, hundreds of protesters associated with CJP and other student organisations staged flash protests in the evening in central Delhi as restrictions were in place.
Protesters carrying the national flag walked through the inner circle of the CP, echoing the slogans of 'Jai Hind'. They also sang the national anthem.

Along with Bora and Dipke, around 150 protesters were detained. Dipke's Tiranga march call came in the wake of arrest of his colleagues Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on October 14, following their detention a day earlier for trespassing at Jantar Mantar, the de-notified protest site and breach of peace linked to the bail bond they had signed along with Dipke.
