Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday outlined his party's strategy to defeat the BJP in the upcoming assembly polls. He said that the Samajwadi Party will work to reduce the BJP's vote in every constituency by 27,000 votes.

Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Akhilesh said, "We held a meeting with party office-bearers today. We all have decided to work towards increasing our vote count by 27,000 in every Assembly Constituency by 2027. In other words, reducing the BJP's vote count by 27,000."

Detailing the party's strategy to achieve the goal, the SP MP said the party would utilise technology and enhance door-to-door connectivity.

"To achieve this, we will need to utilise technology, visit people at their homes to listen to them and understand their concerns, and speak about securing justice and dignity. We will continue to work on this together," Yadav said.

What 2022 poll results tell about 27,000-vote strategy?

Akhilesh's plan to secure around 27,000 votes for the 2027 polls is more than just a pattern; it's a well-calculated strategy, given the results of the last assembly elections in 2022.

Back in 2022, the BJP won 255 seats out of a total of 405. Samajwadi Party was restricted to 111 seats.

In the 255 seats that the BJP won, the victory margin on 126 seats was less than 27,000. On 8 seats, it was less than 1,000 votes. On 27 seats, it was less than 5,000 votes.

In these 126 constituencies, the Samajwadi Party was the runner-up in 113 seats, followed by the RJD of Jayant Choudhary, which was runner-up in 6 seats, and the SBSP of Om Prakash Rajbhar, which was runner-up in 2 seats.

Both RLD and SBSP are in alliance with the BJP, leaving the Samajwadi Party in direct contest on 121 out of 126 seats.
