Days after a fire at a home in Karnataka's Belgavi left six people dead, new CCTV footage has brought a new turn in the investigation. A video has surfaced showing an unidentified man entering the house with a bucket moments before the fire broke out.

On September 15, a fire broke out at the home at Chavahat Street, killing six members of Gajanan Damone's family.

Police examined security camera footage and found that a man approached the home with a bucket at approximately 1:58 AM. About two minutes later, around 2 AM, he was seen leaving the scene, but this time without the bucket.

According to reports, the fire broke out shortly after he left. This raised questions among investigators about what happened in those two minutes and whether the man's presence had any connection to the fire. The case was first registered at the Market Police Station. Initially, officials suspected the fire may have been caused by a short circuit or an explosion in the refrigerator.

Why was a man with a bucket at the house? police probe

However, after the CCTV footage surfaced, police said they were investigating both the probable cause of the fire, the electrical fault and the unidentified man's activities. The cops have visited the gutted house in a bid to locate the bucket seen in the footage.

As the probe has expanded after the footage, the investigating officers are also questioning residents in the area to establish the identity of the man captured in CCTV. Investigators say they have not yet found a definitive link between the man and the deaths, and the exact cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Case becomes political issue

Earlier on Saturday, BJP state president BY Vijayendra and state LoP R Ashoka visited the family of six people who died in the incident. Ashoka held a phone call with the Belagavi DC after the family informed them that they had not received compensation.
