Bengaluru Rental Market: Bengaluru has been the dream city for the IT professionals for the past few decades, but the city is also criticized for heavy traffic congestions and costly real estate. The issue of "unreasonable" rent again came to light recently after a social media user pointed out the high rent and deposit for a 2BHK flat. The tenant also highlighted that despite paying high rent, they get bare minimum facility in return.
'Rs 70,000 For A 2BHK Flat'
In a post on Reddit, a user stated that he was asked to pay Rs 70,000 for a 2BHK flat, adding that the landlord even asked for a deposit of up to Rs 4 lakh. He further stated that while he was ready to pay the rent, the property lacked even the basic facilities. The tenant stated that the room lacked enough space, adding that its furnishing was worse than the PGs.
"Just went flat hunting and walked out genuinely frustrated. Found a 2BHK in a pretty location, basically walking distance from my office. So yes, I was willing to pay a premium. The flat had a nicely decorated living room and balconies with good views," the user wrote.
'Flat Lacked Basic Facilities'
He further alleged that the landlord was not providing even the basic equipment, including fridge, washing machine, and dining table. "One bed. 2 sofas. Tiny TV (14 inches at best, I'm not even kidding). No fridge. No washing machine. No dining table. No bed in the second room. I’ve seen better-furnished PGs," the tenant added.
While some of the social media users agreed with the post author, others pointed out the tenants should blame themselves for the high cost. "The problem is someone will pay that much. I don’t know why people in Bangalore don’t negotiate. Not generalising, but someone will book that flat and pay 70k," one user commented.
