The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has claimed that its leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were detained on Tuesday morning, were not allowed access to their lawyer and their phones were taken away.
Taking to X, CJP's legal head Ratna Singh alleged that Ranka, Das, Ajinkya Shinde and other CJP leaders have not been allowed to meet their legal representative. The CJP leaders were taken to Jaffarpur Kalan police station.
She said, "The SHO of Jaffarpur Kalan police station has refused to let the lawyer meet them, while their phones have been confiscated, raising serious concerns. Under what legal authority are they being detained and why is their lawyer being denied access?"
Their legal counsel, Advocate Pushp Sharma, told news agency ANI that 14 CJP leaders were taken into custody during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
"Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde, and 11 others along with them—a total of 14 people- were detained from Jantar Mantar this morning," Advocate Sharma said.

"They are currently being kept inside. In my last conversation with Saurav, he confirmed that they are still inside. We do not know yet how much longer they will be kept there," he added.
Das, Ranka and 12 others entered Jantar Mantar early morning today to stage a protest, asserting that the site remains a legitimate venue for democratic protests.
While being detained and taken away, Das questioned the authority of the Home Ministry to de-notify the protest site.
"Hello friends! Jantar Mantar has been breached. This is Jantar Mantar. We were inside, and now they are detaining us and taking us away. Who is the Home Ministry to take away our Jantar Mantar? Jantar Mantar is a designated protest site, and we will get the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar from Jantar Mantar," Das asserted.
Dipke demands action against cops
Reacting to the detention, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke asked if waving the Indian flag was a violation of law. "Whoever considers waving the tricolour at Jantar Mantar as a violation is a traitor." Demanding action against police, Dipke said, "How can you arrest someone for waving the national flag?... This is an example of dictatorial mentality."
