The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday announced an anti-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) protest in Kochi on November 7, renewing its call for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the cancellation of the electoral roll revision exercise.
The demonstration, titled "Jantar Mantar at Kochi", will take place at Rajendra Maidan from 4:00 PM, according to a post by the party on X (formerly Twitter).
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke will take part in the demonstration. Top party leaders, including Vijay Mallangi (South Zone Lead) and Aafreen Nawaz (National Secretary), will also join the anti-SIR agitation.
The Kochi demonstration marks the CJP's first major move since its top leaders were arrested by Delhi Police while attempting to stage a demonstration at Jantar Mantar against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR process.
Jantar Mantar Denotified As Protest Site
Last month, Dipke, along with CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, were detained in the national capital for trying to hold a protest against the CEC without permission. Following the incident, authorities denotified Jantar Mantar as a protest site.
Despite the ban, Das and Ranka breached security at Jantar Mantar and waved the national flag to voice their opposition to the denotification. Both leaders were arrested and spent a week in jail. They were subsequently released after giving an undertaking to the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) stating they would not organise any protests at Jantar Mantar while the site remains denotified.
